Canadian Cruise — Post Jamboree Recovery

Karen and I just completed a 14-day trip to Canada that included a 10-day cruise. It was a perfect retreat/recovery from the Jamboree.

It all began with an airplane journey to Montreal where we stayed at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in what is probably the farthest remove from a Jamboree tent for four — a luxury suite complete with concierge level food and drink. We toured the city while there and enjoyed some fantastic food.

Next was a short elevator ride from our hotel to the underground train station where we boarded a business class train to Quebec City. This included a wonderful lunch with wine while watching the passing countryside.

One goal of mine for this trip was to revisit this fantastic city with the love of my life. We stayed at the Chateau Frontenac and dined at some incredible local restaurants. We also wandered around the city on our own as well as with a walking food tour. We sampled poutine and maple syrup taffy among other items.

Next we joined our cruise ship, the Caribbean Princess, where we were treated like royalty and enjoyed all the fantastic service as well as great food, drink, and entertainment. Our first stop was Saguenay, Quebec, a small city on a fjord off the St. Lawrence Seaway. Next was Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, followed by Sydney and Halifax, Nova Scotia. We then stopped in Bar Harbor, Maine, where we did a bit of kayaking. Then Boston and finally New York City, where we caught a flight back home.

We also attended the Ultimate Ship Tour where we went all over the ship from anchor room, to galley and bakery, to laundry, print shop, photo processing, theatre back stage, engine control room, and finally to the bridge. It was fantastic to see and learn more about the workings of the ship.

We are now back home. It’s tough to come back to reality — where’s my cappuccino, cocktail, and comedian show?
