World JOTA-JOTI Team Launch

I’ve just returned from the launch meeting for the World JOTA-JOTI Team. It was held at the World Scout Bureau in Geneva, Switzerland. You can see photos nearby of the office and the team. It was truly an international effort with fellow team members from Brazil, Oman, Finland, Netherlands, and United Kingdom. Our staff advisor is from Ireland and their communications director from India. Our goal is to impact World Scouting with an improved JOTA-JOTI weekend in October.

The World Scout Committee, which governs World Scouting, met the same weekend. So we were able to meet a number of the people who guide Scouting. Plus, we were able to get our guidelines for JOTA-JOTI weekend to the committee for approval.

We spent Friday evening over dinner becoming acquainted, Saturday from roughly 8 AM to 6 PM working on key elements of JOTA-JOTI, and Saturday evening at dinner with the World Scout Committee. It was a very productive session and I’m delighted to be a part of this very active team.

During our meeting we were briefed on the new Scout.org website. If you haven’t yet visited it and registered, I recommend it. This will be the site that will carry JOTA-JOTI news, etc. beginning in May. We also discussed at length a registration and reporting system for the event. We have an excellent start on this system and plan to have it running in May. One of our team members is a software development professional and he’s already done some fantastic work.

We accomplished a great deal during our meeting, with lots of work remaining. Can’t talk too much about the plans pending communication by official channels, but it is going to be great! Stay tuned and get ready for a fantastic JOTA-JOTI weekend October 17 to 19.
