I received word this week that I’ve been appointed to the World JOTA-JOTI Team. This seven member team is responsible for the operation of world-wide Scouting’s Jamboree on the Air and Jamboree on the Internet.
This is an extraordinary honor for me. I’ve been serving as the USA National Jamboree on the Air Organizer since 2010. I will continue in that role, also leading the National Radio Scouting Committee, but will now become involved at the world level working with the World JOTA-JOTI Coordinator and the World Scout Committee. This is a new organization structure for this event as the World Scout Bureau looks to improve and enhance what is already the largest Scouting event in the world.
The team has their launch meeting in late March in Geneva, Switzerland. That should prove to be very exciting to meet everyone on the team and to roll up our sleeves to work on improvements to this already exciting event. It will also be a return for me to one of my favorite cities in the world (not that I’ve visited all that many).
This is a volunteer role. You’ve read my posts on my career blog at PathForeWord about giving back, paying it forward (or is that ForeWord?), and just flat getting involved and making things happen in the service of others. For me, this is so exciting — to be making a contribution with my time, talent, and the little bit of treasure that I have. Plus, I’ll be serving my two big passions — Scouting and amateur radio.
Exciting news in my Ham Radio Adventures.
